Forget the Chops. This Is the Real Point.

Second lesson in, and one of my young students already had the tools to play along with one of her favourite Weezer songs. She didn’t think she could do it. When she realised she could, she couldn’t stop smiling — and there were a couple of tears. Moments like that cut through all the noise. Social media tells us what’s “in,” what’s “out,” what’s impressive, what’s not. Too many chops. Not enough chops. Too simple. Too complex. Forget all of that noise. Play from the heart. Never forget why you picked up sticks in the first place.
