Prayer Over Antisemitism and Freedoms

You may have heard that the Government has dropped the racial vilification provisions from the Combating Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill 2026. That does not mean the rest of the Bill is safe. We have not yet seen the updated draft, but if the remaining provisions stand, this legislation still threatens fundamental freedoms. It fails to focus narrowly on antisemitism and radical Islamic ideology and instead takes a broad approach that could capture religious groups and people with no connection to antisemitism. If the definition of hate groups is expanded to include additional protected attributes, including sexuality, ordinary Christian belief and discussion could be caught. Even raising concerns about trans ideology may fall within its reach.
