Description

"Destur ya seyyidi, medet ya rical Allah, medet ya ashab növbe." (Permission, my master; help, O men of God; help, O spiritual guardians). We have gathered here to mention the name of Allah, to remember Him, and to be remembered by Him. We have come together to seek His pleasure, to earn His contentment, to find our true selves, and to race in doing good. By the grace and favor of the Almighty, we have gathered because His love, His affection, and an ardent longing for Him have filled our hearts. You could have gone to a gathering where people shout, "Come on, hands up!" But instead, Allah has brought us together in a circle where the word of Truth is spoken, where the Truth is called upon, and where people run toward the Truth—all for your own prosperity and the salvation of your future generations. Praise be to God. This is a great state, a great blessing. Know its value. This is a true "state" (spiritual rank). In this time, we are the community of the end times. Truly, carrying faith in one's heart is as difficult as carrying a glowing coal in one's palm. Every moment is a danger; every moment feels as though our faith could fly away. To put it simply, our century has a disease. It's especially prevalent in the youth, the children, and the elderly—I won't say anything about the middle-aged for now. "I am very angry," they say. "I am a very nervous person. I can't tolerate anything." O blessed soul, who is supposed to tolerate you if you are so angry? What are you angry about? "I am very wrathful; I never compromise on my principles." And what are those principles of yours? Sleeping until you die, dealing with useless things, waiting for money to rain from the sky... That’s the principle of the modern person. "I am a person of principles," he says. What is your rule? "My rule is not going to work early." Good God! When you buy meat from a butcher, do you say, "Give me a piece of meat as nervous and sinewy as my daughter or my son"? No, you ask for it to be sinewless and tender. So, my friends, what is this anger for? Why? Toward whom is your anger? If it is toward your own ego (nafs), then fine. But it cannot be toward others. That is why when Allah Almighty describes the qualities of the believers who are destined for Paradise in the Holy Quran, He says: "Kaziminel gayz"—those who restrain their anger. Are there not those who swallow their wrath? They are the ones loved by Allah, and their place is in the highest gardens of Firdaus. If that is so, why do you still roam around like a dragon, saying "I am angry"? You think you are the only one with anger? Beware, there are others far angrier than you. Allah might bring one of them across your path, and they could shatter you. Therefore, be soft, be clement (halim), be peaceful (selim). Allah treats us with His grace and kindness. Al-hamdulillah. Be people of tranquility. Let whoever wants to laugh, laugh. Let the Truth know us. Let them laugh, dear friend! "What do those who know us not know of us? Peace be upon those who know." Can you not say this like Yunus Emre? Say: "Let the Truth know us. What do those who don't know understand? Peace be upon those who do." Say it so they may know you through your humility. Let them know you by your clemency, your gentleness, and the refined sensitivity of your heart. Do not say, "I will tear them apart, I will burn them, I will destroy them." The one who burns and destroys is Allah in His hell—are you Azrael, the Angel of Death, O blessed one? Are you a guard of hell? May Allah create us from nothingness. May He make us aware of His existence and the blessings He has bestowed. If Allah does not make you aware of the blessings He has given you, woe to you; you will think you are living in constant misery. You will go on saying, "I am a victim, I am so aggrieved." True victimhood is if you end up among the people of hell on the Day of Judgment—then you will see what grievance really is. We say, "O Lord, do not even show us the Reckoning; admit us directly into Your Paradise." Should we not ask for this? Let us ask for it. Therefore, let us invoke the name of Allah with joy, with ecstasy, with love, and with longing. "Destur. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim."
