Ladakh’s food traditions are not frozen in time; they continue to nourish, connect and evolve. At Yarma Gonbo, rider-researchers tasted Thukpa while sitting amidst murals that whisper stories tied to faith. They crossed Khardung La, sipped Gur Gur Cha – tea made with churned butter, and tasted an indigenous pasta called Skyu, made from seasonal vegetables. Jam made from locally-grown apricot brings a modern twist to Ladakhi cuisine and kitchens. The most enduring crossings were into Ladakh’s food culture, where meals are memory and transformation, and every recipe is Intangible Cultural Heritage.
