War in Sudan sees sexual violence used as a weapon

The war in Sudan, which some sources say has killed more than 150,000 and displaced another 11-and-a-half million people, will enter its fourth year in less than a fortnight. As the world prepares to mark the grim milestone, medical charity Doctors Without Borders has released a new report documenting systematic targeting of women and girls in Darfur with sexual violence. Between January 2024 and November last year, more than 3,000 victims of sexual violence sought treatment in MSF-supported facilities. In South Darfur, 20 per cent of survivors were under 18, including 41 children under the age of five. The group warns these figures are just "a fraction of the true scale".
