Description
Triumph has released its new-generation Speed Twin 1200 range which, for the first time, includes a high-spec RS variant to top the line-up.
The new Speed Twin 1200 is available from $22,990 rideaway in base trim, or up $4000 to $26,990 for the all-new RS variant.
Both new-generation variants receive chassis upgrades, a bump in power, more advanced rider aids and standard tech features, alongside a refreshed styling package that includes a new fuel tank, new side panels, engine casings, throttle body covers, headlight and brackets, bench seat, exhaust and wheels.
Motivating the two-bike line-up is a familiar 1200cc parallel-twin engine, however, upgrades have been made to produce roughly 4kW more than before, for total outputs of 77kW and 112Nm.
The new Speed Twin 1200 gains the TFT/LCD dash setup as previously seen on the Daytona 660, among other models, which gives access to the newly introduced cornering ABS and traction control.
In the case of the standard Speed Twin 1200, new handlebars are wider and further forward compared to the outgoing model, while the suspension has been upgraded with 43mm Marzocchi forks and twin Marzocchi rear shocks which now feature remote reservoirs and preload adjustability.
Other standard chassis upgrades include new radial calipers mounted to 320mm discs at the front end, and new wheels shod in Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres.
The all-new RS variants ups the ante with its own ergonomics and sportier riding position that sees the rear of the bike raised, while the handlebars are further forward and pegs pulled back for a more focussed ride.
The RS gets fully adjustable Marzocchi forks and Ohlins rear suspension, as well as high-spec Brembo Stylema brake calipers and grippy Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tyres.
As a first for the Bonneville platform, the Speed Twin 1200 RS is fitted with an up/down quickshifter.
“The new Speed Twin 1200 RS is more focused, more engaging and with even sharper responses. It’s designed for riders who want the absolute best in dynamic performance, with classic sporty looks,” said Triumph chief product officer Steve Sargent.
“The updates to the new Speed Twin 1200 are a significant evolution for this much-loved model, and as always, we’ve made sure we retain the superior handling and classic style that everyone admires, while introducing extra power and technology that improves the riding experience seamlessly.”
