Description
► An extra half a million people in the UK have fallen into poverty during the last year, according to new government data.
This means there are now 13.4 million people living in relative poverty, including four million children and 1.7 million pensioners. A person is in relative poverty if their household’s income is less than 60% of the national average.
Work and Pensions Minister Diana Johnson says the levels of poverty are “wholly unacceptable.”
