Description

#exmo #norway #vanlife Early the next morning (or maybe it’s still night, hard to tell up here in the Nordic summer, when it never really gets dark) - the Lieutenant heads out for a swim. Water’s at eight degrees Celsius. Fresh. But the Lieutenant’s used to it, from those old days out on Iceland. Nothing like a shock of cold water to remind you you’re alive. After the dip, it’s brekkie-time in the Iveco Daily 4x4 with Stephan and Mary. Coffee steaming, the scent of warm bread mixing with the damp air. Outside, rain taps on the windows as we start rolling, but soon, the skies open up, and the sun takes over for the rest of the day. We push further north, taking the Jotunheimvegen from Bygdin up to Skåbu. This road cuts across wide plateaus, past high moorlands and mirror-like lakes, with rugged mountains painting the horizon in every direction. Sometimes, we catch a glimpse of reindeer moving across the wild, free as the land itself. The Jotunheimvegen is closed in the winter - nobody’s getting through then. But today, it’s open, and we’re rolling. Later, we set up camp by another lake, firing up the BBQ, with hot tea brewing on the stove. Mary’s got a special tea blend from Egypt—because that’s where she’s from. It’s perfect, you know, sipping Egyptian tea in the middle of the Nordic wilderness, the fire crackling, trucks standing guard in the glow of the midnight sun.
