Description
Want to start cooking healthy homemade meals for your dog but unsure how to make them complete and balanced? In this video, I guide you step-by-step through formulating a nutritionally balanced, gently cooked recipe using the Animal Diet Formulator. You’ll learn why winging recipes can be risky, how to choose the right ingredients, balance calcium and phosphorus, add the right fats, and cover all essential vitamins and minerals—including how to calculate how much your dog should eat.
The recipe (per 1,000 kcal):
• 320g Ground beef (90% lean)
• 50g Beef liver
• 50g Salmon (cooked)
• 2 Eggs (large)
• 40g Spinach
• 20g Peppers (red)
• 18g Sunflower seeds (very finely chopped)
• 7g Hempseeds (hulled)
• 4.5g Eggshell powder
• 2.5g Turmeric
• 1.5g Nutritional yeast
• 1.5g Kelp (700mcg/g iodine)
How much to feed?
1. Calculate the Resting Energy Rate for your dog
RER = 70 × (BW kg)^0.75
2. Calculate your dog's Daily Energy Requirement
- Heavy work = 4 to 8 x RER
- Light work = 2 x RER
- Intact adult = 1.8 x RER
- Average neutered adult = 1.6 x RER
- Obese prone = 1.4 x RER
- Weight loss = 1 x RER
