Edmonton2 / down the henday

When I heard this track off of Mac DeMarco's new album (5 easy hot dogs) and read the title, It set off so many memories of places I could trace back to growing up in Edmonton: The nothingness that sets itself neatly between the neighbourhoods, the torturously long bus rides to get to Whyte avenue from the Northside just to sit and read a book somewhere pretty as a teenager. When I got my first car, the Henday became a close friend of sorts. I’d drive on it after work, on a good day, on a bad day and roam in circles asking myself if I felt like going east, west, north or south, only to end up at home, playing guitar in the basement. A part of me never left that place. - D
