The videos showed a so called prison chef making meals inside his cell using a sandwich press and basic pantry items. Everything was filmed on a mobile phone that had been smuggled into the prison, which is strictly banned. The account, posted under the username journeyman_03, featured simple recipes like fried rice with spam and tuna, chicken burgers, and even a dessert made using a Snickers bar. In just two weeks, nine videos racked up nearly 400,000 views, with followers sending in requests for what he should cook next. In the clips, the inmate described his food as delicious and even compared himself to Gordon Ramsay. He appeared to hide his identity by wearing gloves, sunglasses, and full prison greens. Police from the State Crime Command Corrective Services Investigation Unit spotted the videos online and moved quickly. On Christmas Eve, they arrested a 34 year old man at Long Bay. NSW Police confirmed he was charged on January 2 with using or possessing a mobile phone in a place of detention. He is due to appear in court later this month. It is still unclear whether the man charged was the person doing the cooking or someone who was posting the videos for him. The account took a darker turn days earlier when a video showed an inmate unwrapping a contraband phone that had allegedly been smuggled into the prison. The device was hidden inside a cloth and cut open with a razor blade before being revealed. Despite the charge, the TikTok account is still online and continues to pull in views, with many users saying they are hooked on the prison cooking series.
