Description
Karl didn’t plan the chest pain scenario that day. He improvised it on the spot.
Which means the six students who saved his life had no idea they were about to be tested in the most real way possible.
Student Logan Lehrer was taking Karl’s blood pressure when he noticed something was off. He heard what sounded like snoring respirations and watched Karl’s hand curl inward. His first thought was that Karl was throwing a new symptom at him to solve…but he wasn’t.
Within 40 seconds of recognizing it was actually cardiac arrest, the class had started CPR. And within 90 seconds, the AED was on him, and Karl received two shocks.
At four minutes and thirty seconds, he was talking again.
Instructor Les James said it best: “We got him back from cardiac arrest to be able to talk to him and know his name and what year it was, and that doesn’t happen.”
Every one of the six students was later awarded an EMS Thin White Line challenge coin, given only to those who save a life. 🏥
Karl later returned to that same classroom with his family to thank each of them by name. 🙏
Karl spent 25 years putting lifesaving knowledge into rooms full of people who might one day need it. 💫❤️❤️ ( 🎥 via: Fox Valley Technical College )
