Description

Dr. Tatiana shows a superconducting train that levitates upside down beneath a magnetic track. Once it snaps into place and she lets go, the train glides back and forth without falling. That is all thanks to magnetic flux pinning. Tiny imperfections in the superconductor "lock in" the magnetic field. But as the superconductor warms up, it loses those special superconducting properties, including flux pinning, and eventually the train drops. Isn't science amazing?
