Description
Today is all about the feedlot. We pulled two old concrete-set posts, cleaned up the pad edges with the excavator, and walked through how the new feed barn alley will work once we begin feeding under roof. I share the plan for road base vs. river-bottom material, where the working pens and tub will sit, how cattle will flow to the squeeze chute, and how we’ll feed both sides in one pass.
We also cover why I grease equipment the way I do, how I’ll prep the grade so the surface spreads flat, and how this alley ties into future loadout options. Weekend events are coming, but this one is a nuts-and-bolts feedlot update. To be continued.
What’s inside
Removing concrete-set posts and backfilling so grade will pack tight
Smoothing the approach to both concrete pads for even material depth
Alley width for tractor and feed spout, and two-sided bunk feeding
Working pen placement, tub and chute orientation, and sort-gate strategy
Future add-ons like a covered chute, possible grain bin, and loadout plan
Gear and material
Takeuchi TL10V2 and mini excavator
Road base vs. sandy gravel from the river bottom
Grease routine and zerk checks to keep machines moving
Part 2 will bring the weekend events and more progress. Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss what’s next.
