Every year in the United States, the world’s largest medieval festival, The Pennsic War, with its 20,000 participants, takes place—now in its 52nd year. For the past 25 years, a group of 50 Americans has been marching, playing, and singing together at this extraordinary event, performing marches that feel deeply familiar to many of us. Their unique and inspiring story is now being told through this documentary. These 50 individuals from across the United States have brought to life the 16th-century Ottoman Mehter band, aiming to revive a forgotten chapter of history—the erased legacy of the Janissaries, abolished more than 200 years ago. They share one collective dream: to march and perform in the very place where they first encountered the Janissary Band that inspired their journey—the Second Courtyard of Topkapı Palace, known as Divan Square.
