And both times, the people killed were allegedly not their intended targets. And now, ICE insiders are reportedly blaming a directive from Trump himself as the reason behind these killings. Okay, so there are a ton of moving parts here, but let’s break down what we know so far. Starting with this latest shooting yesterday in Biddeford (Bid-Uh-Furd), Maine, where there are a ton of conflicting versions of events — including from the Trump administration itself. A situation that has not been helped by the fact that the Department of Homeland Security took around 12 hours to release an official statement and has provided VERY little information in the day since the shooting. Right, not long after the shooting, Sen. Angus King of Maine said in a press conference that he had spoken directly to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, and that Mullin had initially told him that the man who was killed had a deportation order against him. With King telling reporters: “He was in a vehicle — pulled out in the vehicle, and the term the secretary used was 'weaponized' the vehicle and was shot by an ICE agent.” Right, and the use of the term “weaponized” is really notable here, because it’s one that federal officials have repeatedly used to justify fatal shootings of motorists — including Renee Good — with the officers claiming that their lives were endangered. And, in a DHS communication sent to some members of Congress, the department reportedly used the same language, saying that the driver had “weaponized his vehicle toward law enforcement.” But then, the story started to change. Right, three hours after his initial conversation with Mullin, King said the secretary had called him back to tell him that the man who was killed actually HADN’T been the target they were seeking. But when the DHS finally released a statement, they made no mention of that fact — and they also didn’t explicitly say that the man had tried to use his vehicle as a weapon against ICE agents. —————————— Produced by: Cory Ray, Philip DeFranco Edited by: James Girardier, Maxwell Enright, Julie Goldberg, Christian Meeks, Matthew Henry Art Department: William Crespo Writing/Research: Lili Stenn, Philip DeFranco ———————————— #ICE #Trump #Maine
