SailGP has confirmed New Zealand’s Black Foils and France won’t compete at next weekend’s event in Sydney.
Their boats need extensive repairs following the high-speed collision in Auckland last Saturday that left two sailors hospitalised.
Black Foils grinder Louis Sinclair is recovering at home after suffering compound fractures in both his legs and undergoing surgery on his right leg.
The Black Foils lost control of their boat at the start of the third race on day one of SailGP Auckland, turning sharply into the path of the French boat, which was travelling at 80kph.
Burling shared some insight into what happened in the lead-up to the incident and said the Black Foils were trying to avoid crashing into another boat.
