Southwest Monsoon Hits Odisha; Entering from North Districts Instead of South Coast Bringing massive relief from the scorching heat just ahead of the Raja festival, the Southwest Monsoon has officially advanced into parts of Odisha. However, in a rare climatic shift, the monsoon made its entry into the state through North Odisha instead of its traditional route from South Odisha. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the monsoon stream entering from the Arabian Sea remained weak over South Odisha. As a result, the winds advanced from the Bay of Bengal side, covering regions stretching from Kendrapara to Keonjhar in North-Eastern and Northern Odisha. While the monsoon is currently not very aggressive, the weather department has predicted a major update: a low-pressure system is highly likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal between June 17 and June 20. This system will significantly activate the monsoon, leading to widespread heavy rainfall and a sharp drop in temperatures across the state. Entire Odisha is expected to be completely drenched in monsoon rains right after the Raja celebrations.
