Treaty Passes in Victoria

Victoria’s State Treaty has now been signed into law. While its full impact is yet to be seen, early developments are troubling. Hospitals are already prioritising Indigenous patients and native title claims are being lodged across metro Melbourne. These steps point to a system that treats people differently based on cultural heritage. This goes against Victoria’s long-held commitment to equal opportunity and against the belief that every person is created with equal dignity. Supporting vulnerable communities matters, but favouritism only fuels division.
