Former US defence chief warned Netanyahu he was ‘wrong’ about Iran in 2009

In an interview on Face the Nation with Margret Brenna, former US Defence Secretary Robert Gates says he had told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2009 that he was “wrong” about his prediction of how an attack on Iran would play out. “I told him then he was dead wrong, that he was underestimating the resilience of the Iranians,” he said, adding that he had opposed Netanyahu’s “notion” that “the regime is fragile" and that "it'll crumble at the first attack".
