Description

What does it take to bring a machine like this back from the dead? This Mercedes Unimog 416 is fitted with a Klaus backhoe: a six-ton mechanical workhorse abandoned for years, buried in vegetation, locked by seized controls, contaminated fluids, tired hydraulics, and a body covered in the marks of time. The OM352 six-cylinder diesel has to be checked, fed from a clean temporary fuel supply, bled, and restarted. The injection pump has to be freed. The hydraulic system has to be treated carefully enough to move the backhoe without rupturing old hoses. Then comes the most critical operation: supporting the heavy rear attachment on timber, draining its contaminated oil, disconnecting the hydraulic lines, and separating the backhoe from the truck without losing control of its weight. Under the dirt, rust, lichen, and old hydraulic grime, the Unimog begins to reveal its real structure again: yellow cab, black chassis, exposed frame, portal-axle stance, 4x4 system, and working differential locks. It is still far from finished, but it has crossed the line from abandoned relic to living machine. For the first time in years, this Unimog is no longer trapped by its own equipment. It runs, moves, and stands ready for the next stage of restoration. @RV-19 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCp2NpaX3aqTikke3jVHx2Q Disclaimer: Quantum Makers is not affiliated with the businesses whose products are shown in this review.
