Description
The University of Waikato is hosting the 19th Polar Law Symposium in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, Aotearoa New Zealand, from 9–11 November 2026.
Held at our world-class conference venue The Pā, the Symposium will explore two central themes:
🌍 Regime Interaction – Biodiversity, Climate, Oceans, and Protecting the Polar Environments
🌿 Biculturalism and Polar Governance
Delegates will engage in dynamic discussions on:
The strengths and challenges of key Treaty regimes
Indigenous governance and its role in protecting Polar environments
Interdisciplinary perspectives linking law, science, culture, and policy.
This Symposium is an opportunity to think creatively about the triple planetary crisis we face and explore pathways toward meaningful solutions.
We look forward to welcoming international delegates to Waikato – to share in the scholarship, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality of Aotearoa New Zealand.
