Lobo, whose name comes from a Khund dialect and means "one who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it," is the last of his people for one reason: he killed them all. He hailed from the planet Czarnia, a virtual paradise that was untouched by war, and the Czarnians were nearly immortal. When Lobo was born, his evil was so frighteningly apparent that the nurse who delivered him went insane and became the planet's first mental patient in ten millennia after the infant Lobo chewed off four of her fingers. Lobo knew he was one of a kind, but he wanted even more. Inspired by the idea of genocide, Lobo created a swarm of lethal scorpion-like creatures. He set them on his people, wiping out his entire species but himself. He claimed it was a science project and gave himself an 'A'. Since then, he has traveled the galaxies collecting bounties. Despite his ruthless nature, Lobo has a strict code of honor when it comes to these agreements. Along the way, he has met and battled several superheroes.
Supergirl is an upcoming American superhero film based on the eponymous character from DC Comics. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, it will be the second film in the DC Universe (DCU). Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. In the film, Supergirl travels across the galaxy on a murderous quest for revenge. It is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios.
A film featuring Supergirl entered development as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) franchise in August 2018, and the character was introduced in the film The Flash (2023), portrayed by Sasha Calle. Plans for the standalone project were altered when Gunn and Safran became co-CEOs of DC Studios in October 2022. A new Supergirl film was announced as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in January 2023, based on the eponymous 2021–22 comic book miniseries by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Nogueira was hired by November 2023; Alcock was cast in January 2024 to debut in the first DCU film, Superman (2025); and Gillespie joined that May. Filming took place from January to May 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and London in England, and in Scotland. The subtitle was dropped by June 2025.
Supergirl is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on June 26, 2026. It will be part of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Development on a sequel to the DCEU film Man of Steel began with Henry Cavill set to reprise his role as Superman. Plans changed after the troubled production of Justice League, and the Man of Steel sequel was no longer moving forward. Gunn began work on a new Superman film, and in October, he became co-CEO of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, and they began work on a new DC Universe. Gunn was revealed to be writing the film in December. The title Superman: Legacy was announced the next month, Gunn was confirmed to be directing, and Corenswet and Brosnahan were cast that June. The subtitle was dropped when filming began in Norway. Production primarily took place at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with location filming around Georgia and Ohio. Filming wrapped in July. The film takes inspiration from the comic book All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, among others.
