Our guest is Yonatan Zeigen. He is an Israeli peace activist, social worker and trained mediator from Tel Aviv-Jaffa. He grew up in Kibbutz Be’eri, near the border with the Gaza Strip. His mother was Vivian Silver, a well-known Israeli-Canadian peace activist who was killed on October 7, 2023. After her death, Zeigen moved back into the center of Israel’s peace movement and has since spoken publicly in favor of ending the war in Gaza, promoting Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation and pursuing a political solution to the conflict. Yonatan describes peace not as a naïve wish, but as a prerequisite for security. Revenge, he argues, cannot bring back the dead and cannot create a future. In interviews and public appearances, he builds on the legacy of his mother, who spent decades campaigning for Jewish-Arab understanding.
Zeigen is now entering politics with Makom Lekulanu — in English, “A Place For Us All” — a new Jewish-Arab party that emerged from the orbit of the "Standing Together" movement. The party is led by Rula Daood and Alon-Lee Green and plans to run in the upcoming Knesset election in October 2026 as a left-wing, egalitarian Jewish-Arab force advocating peace, social justice, equality and opposition to violence. Zeigen is one of the new formation’s prominent candidates.
