Oamaru Steam & Rail - Recommissioning of Dm 16 'The Phoenix' (HD)

On Saturday 23rd May 2026, Oamaru Steam & Rail formally recommissioned English Electric EMU motor carriage Dm 16, named 'The Phoenix' after the society undertook work to convert the former EMU carriage into a diesel generator railcar. The unit motor car was previously preserved by the National Railway Museum of NZ in Ferrymead, Christchurch and was swapped for the society's Dsa 234 in early 2025. With the unit not quite finished, it was towed behind the 'Husky' diesel shunter with a wagon loaded with a temporary generator on top, enjoy!
