Description

After more than 900 kilometres, the National Walk for Truth arrived at Parliament House in Canberra. On Wednesday 27 May, the first day of National Reconciliation Week, the Walk concluded on Ngambri and Ngunnawal Country, marking a significant milestone in a journey that brought together thousands of people in support of truth-telling and a national process to better understand the historical and ongoing impacts of colonisation on First Peoples. Led by Travis Lovett, Executive Director of the Centre for Truth-telling and Dialogue, the Walk travelled from Naarm (Melbourne) to Canberra, engaging communities across the country and building support for a national truth-telling process. At Parliament House, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcomed Travis and the walkers, receiving message sticks and an open letter calling for a national truth-telling process, inscribed on kangaroo skin. In his address, the Prime Minister affirmed his support for the Walk and acknowledged that while there may be bumps in the road ahead, "we'll continue to walk with you." Thank you to everyone across our University community who participated in, supported and followed this remarkable journey.
