Sea Lots has a reputation in Trinidad, but instead of judging it from the outside I walked through the area, spoke with residents, and got a real tour of the neighborhood. While I was there I spoke about figures from the community like Burky Burk and Dole, whose names still come up when people talk about the history of Sea Lots. I also sat down with Burky’s oldest son, Young Burk (Shaq), who spoke about his father and some of the things that still affect him today. People in the community also explained that Sea Lots gets a bad reputation, but there is love and positive people here trying to live their lives. While filming the video police drove through the area twice, and residents told me that because they saw the cameras and knew we were filming, they kept it calm and kept moving. I walked the community, ate the food, talked to the locals, and got to see Sea Lots from the inside.
