From the practice of Tenshinryu Hyoho Shinjuku Branch: Kesa-gake no Koto. In this technique, one evades the opponent's cut by turning through In'yō - right and left - while drawing the sword and counterattacking. Both as a training method and as a condition for the technique to function properly, several elements are extremely important: proper maai, meaning that the starting distance must not be too close; a proper attack, meaning that the opponent's strike must truly be able to reach; and timing. Because the attack is known in advance during training, there is a strong tendency to evade too early. For that reason, learning the correct timing is especially essential. *What Is Tenshinryu?
