Description

Restoration of an old pistol ignition spark lighter. I will restore this rusty tool and ignite my salute cannon when it is fully repaired. ABOUT THE OLD PISTOL SPARK LIGHTER I got this pistol spark lighter from a barn sale here in Sweden. I only paid 1$ for it. My guess is that it is from the mid 1980’s and have been used to ignite a gas stove back in the days. THE RESTORATION PROCESS I started by removing the crispy paint from the pistol spark lighter so I could see how to disassemble it. After removing the paint I drilled out the 3 rivets holding it together. Then I removed the trigger, trigger arm, spring, flint and flint wheel. I gave the pistol lighter frame a good sandblasting and cleaned all the small parts in my vibrating tumbler. There were some big dents on the pistol frame. I used a small hammer to straighten them out and grinded the metal with grit 800 to remove the hammer marks. I blackened some of the small metal parts using a gun blue’ish product and polished the trigger mechanism arm and the gun frame to be mirror blank. I thought that the pistol lighter restoration needed some extra attention, so I created a cool design which I laser engraved onto the pistol frame. I did the same laser engravings on both sides of the frame. I reassembled the lighter mechanism and closed the 2 pistol frames together with 3 rivets and a special 10 mm mirror blank brass rivet that I created on my metal lathe. When I was ready with the restoration, I ignited one of my salute cannons with the pistol spark lighter just to make sure that it worked properly. So it all ended with a big bang. I really think this restoration video turned out to be very good.
