New York Harbor filled with sails, gray hulls and red, white and blue smoke trails on Saturday (July 4) as the city marked the 250th anniversary of the United States with a maritime and aerial review. Tall ships and naval vessels from the United States and allied nations moved through the harbor and up the Hudson River in the Sail4th 250 event, drawing spectators to the waterfront in New York and New Jersey. The parade passed the Statue of Liberty before continuing north along the Hudson. Overhead, military aircraft crossed the harbor as part of an aerial review led by the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels, leaving patriotic smoke trails above the ships and the crowd-lined shoreline. Dozens of countries were represented in the celebration, which was part of a wider Independence Day program across the region.
