► Labour MP Josh Simon has announced he is resigning as the MP for Makerfield to clear the way for Andy Burnham to challenge for the party leadership. The news comes after Keir Starmer issued a statement responding to Health Secretary Wes Streeting resigning Thursday, saying he no longer has confidence in the PM to lead the party into the next election. Sir Keir said the party is in a “battle for the soul of our nation” and will deliver on “the promises we made to the country”.
