Description

Many animals, living and extinct have been named after varying things featured in Star Wars, mostly off of either their unusual appearances and or having traits of either vehicles and alien species as a part of their anatomy. There are a load of them that have been described over the years, both living and extinct, and so, for this year, I thought I’d do something special, and dedicate the whole of this week to covering animals named after characters and or concepts found in the Star Wars Universe. To begin this Star Wars week, the first animal I’ll be talking about is one that was named after the imposing Darth Vader, the animal in question being a form of a horseshoe crab that dates way back to the early Triassic, 245 million years ago. Found in Idaho in 2017, this specimen was the first ever to be found of this group North America that dated to the Triassic, so right away, this was quite the remarkable find. I hope you enjoy!
