Description

Here we have a Hoberman Sphere, invented by Chuck Hoberman. What looks like a toy is actually a clever piece of engineering. It maintains its shape as it opens and closes, making it a perfect tool for demonstrating physics of rotational motion. In this experiment, the Hoberman Sphere spins slowly while expanded. When we collapse it as it rotates, it starts spinning much faster. This is a demonstration of the conservation of angular momentum. As the size of a rotating object shrinks, its moment of inertia decreases. Then its angular speed increases to keep its angular momentum unchanged. This same principle explains why stars spin faster after they collapse. This demo was created by Texas A&M DEEP students and presented by Dr. Tatiana Erukhimova, professor at @tamu / @TAMUArtSci. 👍 LIKE and FOLLOW for fun science content! ➡️ Follow links at linktr.ee/tamuphysastr #tamu #science #stars #shortvideo #physics
