I’m standing at the bottom end of Westgate right now, looking just over the River Don back towards The Ickles where I parked my car. It is a beautiful day, clear blue skies, absolute perfection. I’ve just walked all the way from the Steel Henge into the town centre and back again. And do you know how many cyclists I spotted using this fancy new road layout? NOT ONE. The council spent a staggering £9.7 million of public funding on this Sheffield Road and Westgate active travel scheme. Ten million pounds of our money laid out for lanes that stand completely empty while actual roads are blocked, businesses are trapped, and drivers are left utterly confused. As an ex-British Steel worker who passed my driving test here in '83, I want to know who is calling the shots.
