Description
Is this your first time as a new tesla owner? You are likely making these 10 costly tesla mistakes without even knowing it, and 9 out of 10 new owners are doing at least one of them right now. After driving Tesla cars for almost 10 years, I've seen every common pitfallâand many of them hit your wallet hard. This video is your ultimate tesla owner guide to avoid the frustration and cost of these errors, including common electric car mistakes that go beyond just Teslas.
The most common of all charging mistakes is treating your car like a smartphone. Someone charges to 100% every single day, thinking more is always better. This is wrong. Charging a standard Tesla battery to 100% daily will cause it to lose capacity much faster. đ The best range for everyday use is keeping your battery between 30% and 80%. Set this limit in your app or on the screen for daily driving.

The second battery mistake is the opposite: letting it get too low. Someone leaves their car parked for days with a low battery, thinking it's fine. It's not.
The third charging mistake happens on road trips. Many new owners waste time at a Supercharger trying to get to 100%. After 80%, the charging speed drops dramatically. The time it takes to go from 80% to 100% can be the same as going from 20% to 60%. It's a huge waste of time if you're traveling.
The fourth battery mistake is arriving at a Supercharger with a cold battery. When you drive to a Supercharger without setting it as your destination in the car's navigation, the car cannot precondition (preheat or cool) the battery. This results in much slower charging speeds. In cold weather, it can even harm the battery over time.
Mistake number five is about tesla paint care. Tesla paint is water-based, making it eco-friendly but also very soft. Using an automatic car wash with brushes will destroy your car's finish. These brushes cause micro-scratches and dull the surface, removing that new car shine.
Mistake number six is denting your own car. The front trunk, or 'tesla frunk', looks solid, but the metal is thin and easy to dent. Many new owners, out of habit, press in the center or slam it like a regular hood, which often ends with a dent or a broken latch.
Mistake number seven is "range anxiety" caused by the wrong display setting. Many new owners keep the display set to miles, thinking it's more accurate. The problem is, this range number constantly jumps up and down based on your driving style, the temperature, wind, and even tire pressure. It's not a stable metric.
Mistake number eight is wasting money on Full Self-Driving. Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) are not the same thing. Standard Autopilot is fantastic for highway driving.
Mistake number nine is ignoring tesla sentry mode. Sentry Mode is your silent security guard. đĄ It uses the car's cameras to record any scratches, vandalism, or parking hits when you're not around. It does use a bit of energy, but it can save you hundreds of dollars and hours of frustration. Turn it on in public places, but you can disable it at home or work to save energy.
Mistake number ten is buying without a referral code. Tesla's referral bonuses change often. Sometimes it's a cash discount, free supercharger miles, or a few months of FSD. It's always worth checking before you buy. Use a code from a friend or one you trust.
