Dr. Asif Awan is a seasoned medical and public health professional with over 15 years of international experience in preventing, managing, and treating communicable diseases, while also strengthening health systems across regions. His work has focused particularly on tuberculosis, including drug-resistant TB and TB/HIV co-infection—areas that remain among the toughest challenges in global health.
He has held key international leadership roles, most notably as Chair of the WHO Drug-Resistant TB Advisory Group for the South-East Asia Region, and currently serves as a member of the WHO South-East Asia Regional Strategic and Technical Advisory Group.
Beyond public health, Dr. Awan is also a strong advocate of peace and cooperation between India and Pakistan, firmly believing that regional collaboration is essential for tackling shared health challenges and improving outcomes for tens of millions.
