Becoming Miss Palestine #missuniverse

At this year’s Miss Universe competition, Nadeen Ayoub will make history as the first Miss Palestine. It’s one of the world's biggest beauty pageants, with millions of people tuning in to watch more than 100 contestants compete. She told SBS Dateline that she’s looking forward to “showing the world, the universe, about Palestinian women”. She has also grappled with seeing Israel’s bombardment of Gaza over the last two years. Palestinian health officials estimate at least 68,000 people in Gaza have been killed since the October 7 2023 attack in which Hamas militants killed 1,200 people in southern Israel and took 251 hostages, according to the Israeli government.
