Olympic-themed Venice Carnival kicks off two-week celebrations

Annual Carnival celebrations in Venice have kicked off with a nod to another big event about to start in Italy. The theme is ‘Olympus - back to the origins of the games’ in honour of the Winter Olympics starting later this week. Embracing the lagoons the city is famous for, crowds gathered on the Rialto Bridge to watch the nearly two-week celebration begin.
