Sydney Fish Market opens after $800m re development

Sydney’s long-awaited new Fish Market has officially opened at Blackwattle Bay, marking the completion of one of the city’s most ambitious waterfront redevelopments. After years of delays and cost blowouts, the project has reached an estimated $836 million and is being billed as the biggest harbourside development since the Opera House. The new market is around 20 per cent larger than the old site, sits beneath a striking 200-metre-wide canopy, and is expected to double annual visitor numbers to around six million. With extended trading hours until 10pm, nearly 40 retailers, new food and hospitality venues, and upgraded wholesale, auction and logistics facilities, the redevelopment aims to boost tourism while improving efficiency for the seafood industry.
