What is an appositive? In this quick grammar lesson, I explain how an appositive helps rename and clarify the subject of a sentence. (Appositives can actually rename any noun, but we'll focus on subjects in this short lesson.) We look at appositives like: ✔ Jason Levine, a global knowledge entertainer, teaches through rhythm and rhyme. (commas used because this is additional information) ✔ My friend Jase is good at raps and chants. (no commas used because his name explains "my friend" -- it's necessary information) You’ll also learn a common mistake to avoid: using an unnecessary object pronoun after a proper noun.
