Course Abstract: This course offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the histories, theories, and practices of visual culture. Students will explore how images shape and are shaped by social, political, and cultural forces, while gaining practical experience in visual communication and image-making. Emphasizing critical theory and semiotic analysis, the course equips students to engage thoughtfully with visual media across contexts, with particular attention to issues of gender, caste, class, and race. By the end of the course, students will develop both conceptual tools and creative skills to navigate and interpret the visual dimensions of contemporary life.
