Description
This was filmed around 4/5 days after finding this baby raven on the ground & was taken after his first meal in the morning just after 7 am [ at this stage he needed to feed every 40/60 mins, much to the dismay of the resident primarily as one can soon wear our one reception quick smart ] by which point Marcel would retreat to an area under a very large Brazilian Pepper tree with was surround by lush foliage that includes nasturtiums and an ivy as well other plants along with a small half size cast iron /wood slated garden bench, once there he would forage around or just sit.On this morning he can be seen nestled in his man made nest comprised of lavender and rosemary and he just seems to be taking in all the sounds that are going on around him however halfway through he becomes visibly more & more sleepy with his eyes rolling back in his head, not unlike an overtired human baby,as Marcel struggles to stay awake.
After Marcel was found on the ground in the last week of July & after ringing a few places i was instructed to take him to specific vet surgery where i was advised that he was a raven, healthy, unlikely to have fallen to ground & he was a fledgling & " should be returned to where he was found his parents will look after him ".
unfortunately this was not the case and it was 4/5 days before the parents came near him,he also had a talon missing from a rear toe that became quite swollen & infected in the weeks that followed needing treatment,it was paw paw ointment that cleared it up after having no success with other conventional treatments.Although the only sure fire way to accurately identify the gender of a raven is by blood/dna test Marcel has been declared a male for a number of reasons with the primary one coming from my 15 yr old daughter who has declared that " that bird has to be a male.because its just so annoying " fortunately she avoids Marcel otherwise he might think his name is/was " stupid bird " admittedly the poor kid was swooped by a maggie as a five year old & it appears that it has left her quite scarred.
