Description

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A gang member who shot and killed a clerk during an attempted robbery at an Elm Mott truck stop in July 2024 was sentenced to life in prison plus 25 years Thursday. Christopher Matthew Beltran, 23, of Waco, who had been charged with capital murder, pleaded guilty to a lesser murder charge in a plea agreement with the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office. Beltran acknowledged he shot and killed Dipak Oli at the Gator Stop just north of Waco during an attempted robbery. He also pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in a separate incident the same day at a Hewitt truck stop in which he pummeled the clerk before he and others escaped with $300. Visiting Judge Roy Sparkman accepted the plea agreement and sentenced Beltran to life in prison for killing Oli and 25 years in prison in the Hewitt truck stop robbery. Prosecutors chose not to seek the death penalty in Beltran’s case.
