Minister Joly announces $688M investment in Canada’s satellite sovereignty – June 30, 2026

In Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly announces a $688-million investment in aerospace company MDA Space to build, test and launch an additional satellite for the RADARSAT constellation. The investment aims to strengthen Canada’s satellite sovereignty, including in the Arctic, while supporting surveillance, maritime security and emergency management capabilities. The project, which is tied to the country’s defence industrial strategy, could create or maintain up to 100 jobs. Following her remarks, Minister Joly takes questions from reporters.
