The Parasite Living Inside Mud Shrimp‼️😳 (Part 2 of 56) At first glance, this might look like a worm, an egg sack, or something random stuck to the shrimp. But it’s actually a parasite living under the shell, inside the shrimp’s gill chamber. This is Orthione griffenis, a parasitic isopod that attaches to mud shrimp and feeds from its host. The scary part is that this parasite doesn’t just sit there. It can weaken the shrimp, affect reproduction, and may be one of the reasons some mud shrimp populations have declined along the Pacific Coast. Most people walk right over this without ever knowing it’s happening beneath the mud.
