Jamaat-e-Islami Announces Major Islamabad Protest Against Inflation on May 15
Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a major protest demonstration in Islamabad on May 15 against rising inflation and increased fuel prices.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman strongly criticized the government over what he described as “criminal economic policies” that are worsening inflation across the country.
He stated that the party would launch a nationwide anti-inflation movement after Eid, while the May 15 protest in Islamabad would serve as the first major phase of the campaign. According to him, future strategies, including possible strikes and wheel-jam protests, will also be announced during the demonstration.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman claimed that the ex-refinery price of petrol stands at PKR 271 per litre, while the remaining cost paid by consumers comes from taxes and petroleum levies. He alleged that the government is imposing heavy taxes to meet IMF targets rather than providing relief to the public.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also criticized rising electricity taxes, government spending, and luxury purchases by political figures, saying ordinary citizens are struggling with severe economic hardship and unemployment.
He further urged motorcycle riders across Pakistan to participate peacefully in the anti-inflation movement, stating that millions of bikers could play an important role in making the campaign effective.
The announcement comes amid growing public concern over inflation, fuel prices, and the increasing cost of living in Pakistan.
