During a church service at Sandringham in 2018, the Queen asked two sisters whether the older sister “looked after” her younger sibling - to which the girls’ mother responded that it was actually “the other way around”. Elizabeth replied, “It’s like that with Charlotte and George.” The sisters’ father recalled that “The Queen was implying that Charlotte keeps an eye out for George rather than the other way around.” “It is often the case that a younger child is more confident.” In fact, the comment may have revealed that the Queen felt like George and Charlotte would end up developing a relationship similar to that of their grandfather and great-aunt King Charles and Princess Anne - who are also two years apart in age.
