Description
During Matariki Weekend 2025, a few of New Zealand's mainline heritage operators joined forces, to celebrate 50 years since the formation of the Federation of Rail Organisations of New Zealand in 1975. Held in Palmerston North over the long weekend, a series of excursion trains and rolling stock displays were organised by Steam Incorporated, Glenbrook Vintage Railway, Pahiatua Railcar Society & the Feilding & Districts Steam Rail Society.
The locomotive lineup partaking in the event were as follows:
Steam - Ww 644, Ab 608 & Ja 1271.
Diesel - Da 1410, Da 1431, DBR 1254 & DC 4818.
Railcar - Rm 31.
The event was to celebrate what heritage rail has accomplished in New Zealand over the last 50 years, from getting steam locomotives back on the mainline in 1985, to now enabling heritage operators to crew their own trains on the national network.
Sit back and enjoy what will likely be the biggest NZ rail event of the 2020's, showcasing New Zealand's rail heritage at its finest!
