The Malgrats (Illes Malgrats) are a small group of rocky limestone islets located off the south-west coast of Mallorca, near Santa Ponça and Peguera in the municipality of Calvià. Comprising mainly Malgrat Gran and Malgrat Petit, they lie a short distance offshore and are clearly visible from the surrounding coastline.
The islets and their surrounding waters form the Illes Malgrats Marine Reserve, established in 2004 to protect important marine ecosystems. The area is known for extensive Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows, clear waters, and diverse marine life, including groupers, bream, octopus, and barracuda. The cliffs also provide habitat for seabirds such as Eleonora’s falcon and Audouin’s gull.
Uninhabited and largely inaccessible, the Malgrats have no permanent structures and are valued primarily for their **ecological importance** and their role as a striking natural landmark along Mallorca’s southwest coast.
