Description

*Red Cabbage Potato Pancake With Ham & Béchamel Sauce* Have you heard of a rösti? The popular Swiss dish is similar to hash browns, but is more like a large potato pancake. In winter, a rösti is always welcome — especially if you have a bunch of potatoes to use up! Here, instead of just sticking to potatoes, our chef Oli shows us how to make it truly special with a few extra additions, like red cabbage, a creamy homemade béchamel sauce, and ham to top the whole thing off. ⏱️ Cook time: 1hr 20 mins 📌*FULL RECIPE:* https://www.scrumdiddlyumptious.com/red-cabbage-potato-rosti-crispy/298163 *Ingredients:* _For the béchamel sauce (optional):_ - 2½ cups milk - 2 bay leaves - 3½ Tbsp butter - ½ cup flour - freshly grated nutmeg, to taste - salt and pepper _For the red cabbage potato rösti:_ - 11 oz red cabbage - 2 red onions - 1½ lbs potatoes - 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar - salt and pepper to taste - 11 oz Swiss cheese - 6 oz Manchego cheese - olive oil for frying - store-bought Alfredo sauce or béchamel sauce - 5 slices ham for the topping *1. Make the béchamel sauce (optional)* If you prefer homemade béchamel sauce over store-bought Alfredo sauce, bring the milk and bay leaves to a boil in a saucepan, then remove from the heat. Melt the butter in a separate saucepan, then sprinkle in the flour and stir well so the flour doesn’t brown. Remove from the heat. Remove the bay leaves from the milk, then gradually add the milk to the flour mixture, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the sauce to a boil, stirring constantly, and thicken it. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper to taste. *2. Male the red cabbage potato pancake* Wash the red cabbage and slice it into thin strips. Boil the cabbage in salted water for about 10 minutes, then drain. Peel and slice the onions into thin strips, then peel and grate the potatoes. Heat olive oil in a skillet. sauté the red cabbage and onions, and add a splash of apple cider vinegar. Add the grated potatoes and cook everything on low heat until the potatoes and cabbage are soft. Season with salt and pepper. *3. Assemble the dish* Dice the cheeses, add them to the skillet, and stir until melted. Flatten the potato mixture in the skillet and continue cooking on low heat. Once the bottom is golden brown, flip and cook the other side. Serve the red cabbage potato pancake on a bed of béchamel or Alfredo sauce and top with ham. __________________________________________ *Scrumdiddlyumptious brings you creative recipes & cooking hacks every day, so be sure to like, follow, and subscribe for inspiring new ideas.
